My intro:

Years ago I created a series of social networks which did really well for a short time. We got millions of hits and 1/4 million members across the board, along with 200,000,000 monthly impressions on Facebook and more than 7 million Facebook fans.

However, this project began when I was teenager and I had NO technical know-how. With no idea what I was doing I had a really hard time keeping the servers up.

However, my experience in creating these networks really inspired me. I realized that the future of human civilization is going to be online however it will likely be in a 3D virtual world.

I had not been gaming for years then and I decided to get back into it just to see how the industry had progressed since I was a kid. What I saw inspired me and I realized that this sort of thing is indeed the future.

I created this clan and this forum in-part to learn all I could about these things and I began to pitch the idea of building such a virtual world. I called it Project Sapphire Dawn and lots of people shared their insights.

However, the more I learned the more I realized I had no idea what I was doing. Virtual worlds are difficult to make and I realized I needed some more experience before diving right in.

Therefore, I started a creator community on Ylands (similar to Roblox) and started to experiment with the decentralized creation of games. Together we built and published more than 30 games and helped Bohemia Interactive build the lobby for Ylands.

I have learned and grown a lot since then and I feel like I have gained the experience needed to begin my life’s goal, namely, to maximize human freedom through decentralized virtual worlds.

It was really the first Halo that inspired me the most when it comes to games it was cool to have something I was really good at.

What got you into game development?

I'm not really a game developer I'm someone passionate about virtual worlds and I see gaming as the key to creating the needed context for conversations to make social virtual worlds a reality.

How did you get into gaming?

When I was three I started playing games and my parents told me if I could go to the bathroom and wipe my own rear end, that they would get me an Xbox (the first one that came out) so as a little three-year-old I went upstairs to the bathroom and had the most rewarding crap of my life. Played nothing but COD when it first came out, and lots of racing games and continued to play games all my life and now I'm 17 turning 18, and sadly have a gaming addiction due to having nothing but that to do, but it's what I love doing.

What got you into game development?

I have loved the way that games make people think, interact, and overall entertain and bring joy or challenges to the player(s) and have always wanted to continue to bring new and creative ideas to the table and bring more options to the player(s), I guess what brought me to want to get into game development is the people, the ability to use my creativity to bring joy and entertainment to others, and seeing all the things people over the years have created with games and want to make something of my own that I could be proud of and that others would enjoy.

What's a non-game dev hobby?

Playing video games (maybe too much), writing, singing, acting, public speaking, and exorcising.

What is the one thing that made you fall in love with P1Gaming?

Your devotion to your players/community and wanting to make something for the people and really putting time and effort into what you do.

Where are you from?

Texas (basically its own country at this point)

Your game dev interests.

Design, world edit, voice acting, balancing, and a few others I can't think of.

How long have you been doing game dev?

From about 2014 up till now I guess.

How did you get into gaming?

I didn't have any consoles growing up, so when I visited my friends and neighbors they would introduce me to games.
I fell in love with stuff like Rayman 2 and Half-Life 2, and have been a huge nerd ever since.

What got you into game development?

Ever since I was young I've spent a lot of time writing, conceptualizing and creating characters and assets for games.
In middle school my friend and I would attempt to execute on these ideas, but due to the steep learning curve of the tools and our age we never really finished any of these overly ambitious game projects.

Since then I've continued to collect ideas for games, but only recently started taking these seriously and attempting to develop these ideas into finished products. Playing with the game Dreams helped me realize how much I still enjoy it, so I began developing a small action platformer that I will hopefully release soon, with no intention of stopping after that.

What's a non-game dev hobby?

I enjoy drawing, especially with digital art, characters and environments and even writing. I may soon combine these hobbies and get back into comic creation, a hobby I also haven't explored much for a while.

What brought you here? How did you get to know about us and if you love P1, what made you love P1!

Y-Lands brought me to P1 and I stayed for the positive community.

Where are you from?

Chicago aka Gotham City

Your game dev interests.

Art is m specialty and I absolutely love how beautiful and fantastic game art makes me feel.
But the truth is that the idea of taking a game concept that I have and making it a reality is what motivates me to continue developing.

How long have you being doing game dev?

Literally just started haha altho I guess I technically attempted it as a child and have been creating art my entire life.

How did you get into gaming?
During my childhood (around age 9), I was bedridden for 2 weeks thanks to a leg injury. To help take my mind off it, my mum bought me the original GameBoy (big chunky grey beast) with Super Mario Land & Dr Mario. I was inept to a fault, unable to pass any stage of either game. To combat this, I would hand the game off to my mum whenever I got stuck & slowly built up my skill throughout my hospital stay. My obsession had begun. Upon returning home, I asked for a PS1 for Christmas & the rest was history.

What got you into game development?
Throughout my gaming career, I've been drawn to bending & breaking the rules of a game to broaden the experiences I can extract from them. These were usually games featuring level editors and buggy online multiplayer. I would develop elaborate levels for Far Cry Instincts Predator (Xbox360) & Time Splitters Future Perfect (PS2). To top this off, I'd spend literal thousands of hours finding glitches and bugs in online multiplayer games like Halo 2 & Splinter Cell Chaos Theory to explore beyond the intended experience. Over time, it became harder to find this kind of fun as console titles ditched user-created content in favour of more competitive & curated gameplay. Fortunately, I stumbled upon Garry's Mod and what was previously an addiction to gaming became a full-blown all-consuming obsession. Garrys Mod was a haven for anyone with an inclination to create & I was no exception. Immediately, I was enticed by an in-game scripting tool called "Expression 2", which allowed you to create logic to control complex contraptions. By the end, I had hundreds of scripts with thousands of lines of code & a newfound love of programming. From here, I went on to spend a decade of my life trapped in retail but always pursuing game development as a hobby between my shifts. Eventually, I built up enough funds to obtain a degree in Games Design & Programming to realize my dreams of building virtual worlds for people to explore & enjoy.

What's a non-game dev hobby?
Networking. I adore chatting to people & find myself coming into contact with people from all across the gaming space. Recently I've built up a good network of game developers and game studios which I've been helping find opportunities and talent.

What brought you here? How did you get to know about us, and if you love P1, what made you love P1!
I like to wander around the internet & happened upon this community when falling down a rabbit hole. Quite the lucky find.
For me, P1 was warm & welcoming from the get-go. The open nature of development caught my attention right away as this is both forward-thinking & captivating to observe.

Hi everyone! My name is David, and I am a college student studying computer science!

How did you get into gaming?

Video games are the main source of fun and a common background that I could share with my classmates back in primary school. I usually played PC games back then. From then on I got into story-heavy triple A products and popular indie games. I don't game that much anymore due to study but they take over as soon as I go on to break :)

What got you into game development?

It was an interesting coincidence brought about by a sad story. Throughout high school I have always aspired to go into the field of biochemistry, but as soon as I tried to apply for US universities, I was surprised by their "holistic" approach to admissions (to give context, I studied in New Zealand and all they needed for college application were test scores). I was adviced to work on some "capstone projects" to boost my application, and that is how I initially got into programming. That completely changed my course of study later on in university. I got into game development focusing on programming shortly afterwards, when I realized that I could get involved with video games in a professional way other than playing competitively.

What's a non-game dev hobby?

I like to read and watch Netflix/movies! I also like to watch stream highlight clips on YouTube from esport professionals.

What brought you here? How did you get to know about us and if you love P1, what made you love P1!

I saw a notification on LinkedIn and I dived deeper looking at what P1 is about, thought the motive behind P1 is absolutely awesome and here I am!

Where are you from?

I spent my first half of my years in China, and the rest in New Zealand. Now I am a second year college student in the US!

Your game dev interests.

Mainly programming related. I have a deep interest in programming game AI behaviours.

How long have you being doing game dev?

Around 3 years. I spent the first two mainly learning how to use Unity and Unreal as well as the programming languages they are scripted in, and have recently worked in a studio as a mobile game developer.
